European Championships and Cup for Clubs
Communique from Mike Pegg, president the CEP. I hope you, your family and friends are safe and healthy Since we postponed our European Women's Triples Championships a few weeks ago, almost all of Europe has been closed due to the pandemic.
Although we are all encouraged by the fact that some countries are coming out the other side, there is still a lot of uncertainty as to when Europe will start opening up again. Covid-19 is a new virus and there is so much that scientists, health experts and even governments don't know!
It has become an almost daily exercise for clubs and federations to assess when their members will be able to start playing pétanque again, but one thing has become very clear, and that is more time must pass before we can all cross borders and take part in international tournaments.
It is because of the continuing uncertainties, the doubt that every nation will be able to travel or participate in competitions that the CEP Directors today took the unprecedented decision to cancel all our tournaments for 2020.
I am sure that you and your players will be disappointed by this decision, but at the same time I know that you will understand that we had no other choice.
We continue to work on the arrangements for the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the expectation that by then life for all of us will have returned to some normality
Thank you for your ongoing support – and please stay safe.
Best regards, Mike Pegg, President
