World Championships 2022 in Denmark
Taking into consideration the particular situation of New Caledonia on the health, political and economic plans, the FIPJP Executive Committee decided, during its meeting on Saturday March 6th, not to organize the World Championships in mixed doubles, singles and doubles for Men and Women in 2022. Already initially planned for 2021 they had been postponed by one year in order to avoid too many world events this year since we will already have the World Championships in triplets of the Men in July in Lausanne - postponed from 2020 - as well as the World Championships for Women and Youth in Ayutthaya in Thailand in December...
In addition to the strong health restrictions weighing on New Caledonia and already making it very difficult or even impossible for foreigners to access the territory as well as the movement of local players to the outside world, political changes have just intervened which prevent the local authorities - Government, Southern Province, Municipalities… - to confirm the financial commitments essential to the organization.
In addition, September 2022 will see the organisation of the last of the three institutional referendums provided for by the Matignon agreements of 1988 to give local populations the possibility of choosing between total independence or maintaining the current situation of high autonomy within the framework of the French Republic. Given the tensions that this will inevitably generate due to the small expected difference in results, the atmosphere may not be too conducive to the success of such an event.
The FIPJP then asked the Danish Federation if they would be in a position to advance their candidacy for 2023 until next year. The latter, which has already organised several events in Europe, has just officially given us a positive response and a visit will be organized as soon as possible on the spot. We will therefore quickly provide the federations with the necessary information.
The candidacy of New Caledonia is not yet buried and it will be examined for 2023 with the new management teams both at the FIPJP and there, since we will resume the pace of our world championships.
